Scirocco Still Green Lighted For North America?

It's now being reported that the new Scirocco could still be coming to North America. The top dog at VWAG (Martin Winterkorn) has the final say, not the head of VWoA (Adrian Hallmark). So it's still possible we might see the new Scirocco. [Discussion]

Scirocco WRC?

Could the new Scirocco be headed for rally use? If the rumours are true, then it’s possible we might see the new Scirocco on TV in the World Rally Car Championship. The only downside is that WRC doesn’t have any races in North America. [Discussion]

No Scirocco For North America?

The folks at Automobile magazine are saying that the Scirocco won’t be coming to North America after all – because it’s too similar to the GTI. Most Volkswagen enthusiasts will agree the IROC looked more like a Golf than a Scirocco. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a market for a 2 door, fastback styled, sporty coupe in Volkswagen’s North American line up. [Discussion]

Mk6 Golf, Tiguan, then Scirocco

The latest word on the new Scirocco is that it’s “still a ways off”. Since the focus is on getting the Mk6 Golf ready for next year, I’d suspect that means the Scirocco isn’t going to be available for at least another year. So expect it to be released in 2009 – at the earliest. [Discussion]

Scirocco On Hold

The new chairman of Volkswagen AG (Martin Winterkorn) has put plans for the new Scirocco on hold. This doesn’t mean it’s cancelled though – only that it’s not full steam ahead. One of the key reasons would be that Winterkorn wants all new models to undergo a styling review. This means the controversial front and rear ends of the IROC concept might be changed – which could be good news for all fans of the original Scirocco’s fastback styling. [Discussion]

Wolfgang Bernhard says IROC is sexist VW

I was reading this article and had a chuckle when I read that Volkswagen’s Wolfgang Bernhard said the IROC was the "sexiest set of wheels VW has ever come up with". I don’t know if I’d agree with the term “sexist” for the IROC. It’s certainly attractive, but I don’t think it can be classified as the sexist car VW has ever made. [Discussion]

Scirocco to look the same as IROC prototype

A new review of the IROC concept car by AutoExpress offers some interesting new pictures of the car, as well as one shocking tidbit of info: that the Scirocco will look the same as the concept. This is shocking because most people expected the car to change in the front and rear before production. Most online gripes about the look of the new Scirocco have been about the strange new front end (radically unlike any other VW), and the lack of a fastback tail. [Discussion]

New Premium And Volume Groups For VAG

It’s being reported that the new head of Volkswagen AG is planning on grouping the various brands into two groups – a premium and a volume group. Volkswagen will be in the volume group along with Seat and Skoda. What does this mean for us in North America? The sharing of platforms within the group will mean development and production costs will go down, so our cars will hopefully drop in price. It’s unknown when this change will take place, or if it’ll have any effect on the Scirocco. But it’s certainly a good idea. [Discussion]
